@cwebber has it even been a year since that top Cloudflare engineer created a security library and announced it with much "trust me bro, I know how to AI" fanfare, only to have it raked over the coals for having security holes you could drive a truck through and having to warn it was not for production use?

@cwebber I was very close to getting a job with Cloudflare about a year ago but in the 11th hour it didn't work out. May have been a blessing in disguise (though at the time I was devistated).
I wonder if me saying something thing like "if genAI isn't giving us a 4 day work week, what are we even doing?" was a factor 😂
@cwebber @cloudflare cloudflare is responsible for rotting the internet from within. Their CDN is essentially a vibe, and they don’t care about anything other than keeping their shitty investors happy. Line must always go up.

@cwebber I wonder if there's an industry that has adopted AI tools as much as, or more than, software engineers, to this day. 
I genuinely wonder if we're a majority of idiots, accepting the “token burn = productivity” discourse, and getting more layoffs as a reward.
@cwebber Oh dear. I hope Kenton Varda is OK. It was only a matter of time til the contagion spread. He did have the foresight to keep Cap'n Proto separate, but Cloudflare are dependent upon it for Workers. I came across some R&D today which has more promise than CapTP though, but implementation availabilty and maturity are concerns. I am fed up of this pseudo-religious VC-driven LLM fart huffing. I have my domains parked on Cloudflare for the moment, and their anti-bot stuff is useful, but...
@bms48 I'm guessing Kenton's probably fine, since he's taken a lot of leadership in the LLM adoption stuff Cloudflare is doing and was more or less the main architect of Cloudflare Workers
@cwebber Yup. The really cool stuff is in Sandstorm; I'm not there yet. I did email him weeks ago about T-shirts but he has none any more. Proud to be the owner of a Quad9 shirt, though.
@cwebber I predict those who remain will work 80hr weeks to out of fear. Things will keep chugging at a modest pace and the credit will go to ai.
@cwebber@social.coop this would be the first year they have lost employees on net (and is almost as many fires as they had hires last year) so this suggests to me that they're having a really bad time and doing "AI!!!" because that sounds better than "well we're fucked lmao"
@foxbops I'm guessing they're rolling in money, they just want to prove to investors, like all the companies want to right now, that they're so smart about adopting AI that they can eliminate workers
@foxbops which is another way to say, their spend is now up, but they have decided that spending on machines is better than spending on human beings, because machines don't take vacations or sick leave
