I mean I dunno what to tell you right? You know Trump - if he wanted to attack Iran again, he'd do that. He obviously doesn't want to and if you believe that's out of the goodness of his heart or a desire to avoid war - well, I got some orange groves in New Mexico to sell you, only slightly irradiated!
Iran told Trump not to send destroyers through the Straight. Today, WHILE he's declaring we almost have a deal, Trump sent destroyers through the Straight. Because he's a petulant manchild nazi.
Presumably the calculus here is to demonstrate his power - essentially daring Iran to break off negotiations. He is assuming they won't, and that will put him in a position of dominance for the negotiations going forward.
Iran is correcting that assumption - with live rounds.
Honestly Trump isn't that hard to figure out once you realize he's always playing for an audience. That audience might not be you, but the guy's brain consists of racist memes and "ratings."
Why does the US Navy NEED to send 3 destroyers through the Straight, RIGHT NOW? They don't man, it could wait till we have a deal.
But Trump is flexing, with the intention of turning that flexing into leverage at the negotiating table. He wants to APPEAR stronger and more in charge than Iran. Really.
