Watching the latest California governor debate and I still don’t understand Becerra’s popularity. He’s against high speed rail. He’s against single payer healthcare. He’s against regulating the oil industry. He’s against abolishing ICE. Why are people rallying around this guy? Makes no sense

@danirabbit he sure sounds like a Republican.
@danirabbit I've just started looking into the candidates. I think a surprisingly large number of people think they're being smart by immediately rejecting any candidate with any appealing policy proposals as unelectable, and assume that they have to support the centrist from the start. The surprising thing is they jump on this before the formal party machinery really gets into operation.
He also repeats the right wing talking point that homelessness is a mental health problem, not a cost of living crisis. Bro is a Republican straight up
@danirabbit that's what CA Democrats look for in a leader unfortunately. A Republican willing to walk in a pride parade and put a D next to their name. That's basically the qualifications.
@danirabbit I'm not in CA, but I've only ever heard of Porter and Steyer (no more billionaires for anything). Is Porter the best choice among who's left?
@eldersea Porter is my top choice but she’s polling less than 10% currently. I think Steyer is our best bet for a progressive platform—which feels ludicrous not gonna lie.
@danirabbit I seem to recall he's a bit like Pritzker in that he's rich af but not a complete shitbag? Was he involved in some climate change thing years back?
I liked Porter when she was in Congress. Here's hoping she gets a boost! Y'all don't have ranked choice, do you?
