8/ Legally the Sovereign Base areas are complicated as they are integrated with the surrounding Republic of Cyprus 馃嚚馃嚲 communities and economies. They are the only British 馃嚞馃嚙 territory to use the Euro, but they are NOT part of the EU 馃嚜馃嚭
In the last 20 years there has been some tension between the UK and Cyprus as the Republic of Cyprus seeks to gain legal sovereignty over the bases.

9/ Again, in the interest of #geoweirdness we need to mention the Republic of Cyprus 馃嚚馃嚲 has multiple enclaves within Dhekelia 馃嚞馃嚙, the eastern base area.
Also the borders of Dhekelia include an extended bit the width of a single road.
10/ One of the key points of dispute regarding the bases is whether or not the UK 馃嚞馃嚙 has control of territorial waters.
On a related note Cyprus 馃嚚馃嚲 has a dispute with Israel 馃嚠馃嚤 regarding the rights to underwater gas fields south of the island

Culturally and as part of the EU 馃嚜馃嚭, Cyprus 馃嚚馃嚲 is often classified as Europe, but geographically it is in Asia and this is also the approach we take in our geocoding results
