Unless you have access to the Death Star, you cannot do anything that's "bad for the planet".
Bad for life? Sure.
The rest of the planet has about 10 billion times* more mass than all life combined. We're are not even a fart as far as the planet is concerned.

@thomasfuchs There used to be a website "How to destroy the Earth" that started with something like "Destroying all life on Earth is much easier than destroying the planet" and then went into more and more silly ways you could actually destroy the planet. I liked the matter cannon where you kept firing chunks of the planet off at escape velocity.
@slowe supposedly about 50 tons of meteorites/space dust are added to Earth's mass each day, so they better get cracking with that cannon
Even "bad for life" is questionable, because despite our best efforts we haven't figured out how to sterilize the whole planet.
Anything we're doing that harms the environment harms _the environment we (and many other species) need to survive_.
If we continue to do so, we (and many other species) will die; much faster than this would happen "naturally".
But life will adapt and go on.
We're really only doing harm to ourselves.
@thomasfuchs Bad take. Sure, some sort of life will survive even our worst mistakes, cockroaches may tank a nuke and keep on trucking, but we're wiping out a shocking amount of biodiversity every day. Regardless of humanity's fate, someday millions of years down the line there will be a similar level of biodiversity again, fine, but it will be too late for zillions of species that we've failed.
Is it ok to exterminate a people if other people will repopulate their land eventually?
