As it does with everything else, AI is turning podcasting into a slop-ridden mess. This doesn't affect me much. Podcasts can eat up a ridiculous amount of otherwise useful time, so I rarely listen (I do read transcripts). But it demonstrates the increasing pollution of AI.

@dangillmor I took a Lyft to work today, and I think the driver was listening to an AI generated audiobook. The voiceover was definitely AI, and I'm pretty sure the content was, too. It was just this meaningless story with weird, repetitive sentences, and it went absolutely nowhere in the 30 minutes I had to listen to it.
I don't see what someone would get out of that.
@tuckerm Hmm, sounds useful as an insomnia remedy?
@dangillmor Podcasts have become an important independent news source as traditional media outlets have become suspect as they self-censor in fear of the regime. It is hard to avoid them. I think that the internet will need to be reinvented. The existing internet will just become bots talking to bots. Mastodon is sort of a start in this better direction.
