@oluOnline I just moved to GTS and I LOVE it. Highly recommend just having your own instance. It's just $5/mo over at fedi.host :)
@zkat other than no character limit what's the difference with GTS?
@oluOnline my favorite part of it so far besides it being fast and under my control is that it has replies controls!! Like you can decide not to see replies from people you don’t follow or make it so you have to approve them etc

@oluOnline Yep, I am in this camp.
I think it is a bit of an overkill for most people, but I justify it by also running a few dozen accounts on it with a large number of followers.

If you do want to run your own server, I would recommend to either set it up on https://masto.host, so that you don't have to worry about managing the server yourself, or maybe look into https://gotosocial.org, which is cheaper to run (but not too sure how easy to update/maintain).
Other than that, I do like omg.lol a lot, as you get a *ton* for what you pay them, as you probably know.
