I sent some photos to my tree guy friend like "what's this tree?" and turns out it's shagbark hickory!! There's a whole stand in the woods near me. In southern Quebec we're at the northern edge of this species' range, found in the floodplains on which so many people, myself included, live. It's likely to be designated as vulnerable or threatened in this province in the near future, mainly due to habitat loss.
