A Roman child's sarcophagus with Cupids racing chariots: the horses of one of the drivers have fallen, a Cupid is trying to help a horse get back on his feet. On chariot drives over a Cupid lying on the ground.
The interpretation of the motif is disputed: it was explained as souls driving towards the heavens, as an allegory for the hardship of life and the eventual triumph after death as well as an allegory for the journey of life with its joy and loss.
