Can you name a living scientist? 76% of U.S. cannot. 🤔

@Sheril I'm definitely more alive than Elon musk
@Sheril Is that strictly necessary, though? The people that come to mind, apart from actual scientists I know personally (who would probably not want to be known in any wider public sense) are those who have taken it upon themselves to become science communicators, often with unpleasant side effects like harassment.
I‘m happy for scientists to science away in peace. Lots of scientific achievement is a collective effort anyway.
Trump is a doctor and Musk a scientist. 🤣
@Sheril How about OH Pilkey? He and I (amongst others) did a cruise mapping turbidites via foram ID and mapping back in ‘75. We both mapped the logistics for their cruise to Tunisia the next season for fun.
I know he changed my life in a good way. Wonderful guy that positively impacted many, many people.
Sorry, I read your list and he popped into my mind.
@Sheril yeah well nobody who listed elon musk could either
@Sheril Does Robert F. Kennedy Jr. count? Or Dr. Oz?
@Sheril Since when is Elon Musk a scientist?
@Sheril Dr. Eric Topol of Scripps Research in San Diego.
@Sheril this seems like a ridiculous poll. I would guess a lot of Americans can name a scientist-but they don't think of them as scientists. It's their cousin who works in biotech, or their friends wife who teaches as the local university, or someone who is known for some other reason, but is known for an entirely unrelated reason.
@Sheril Dang, that’s really sad. I can’t say I’m surprised…
@Sheril I can!! But my first thought was my mom 🤗
@Sheril Elon Musk a scientist? Oh my head.
