uh-oh, I think I'm fucked with Stripe & Beehiiv - I don't think there's a way to move the subscriptions to a new stripe account either without everyone having to re-enter their card info
Post
@decryption I don't think you can move users payment details to a new stripe account. But you should be able to use the stripe API to create new subscription objects in your existing account that aren't tied to beehiiv, effectively re-enrolling your subs into new subscriptions.
@decryption but also, I'm not sure what Mr beehiiv says is right.. if you disconnect beehiiv from your stripe account I'm not sure why/how the existing subscriptions would fail to renew? Or are they not actually using Stripe's subscriptions API?
@Marner that's the thing - All the customers are in Stripe. All the customers have Stripe products that are subscriptions attached to them. All the billing logic is handled by Stripe, not Beehiiv. But they are "connected" to my Stripe account and I can't revoke access.
@decryption Ah yeah I see, if they connected your account with platform controls, they have to do the disconnect
It looks like the main issue is that after disconnecting, the existing subs will still collect platform fees for Beehiiv, unless you edit the subs to remove the application_fee.
I think you can do what you need through the Stripe API, but yeah feels a bit risky.

@Marner they don’t collect a platform fee for Beehiiv (it’s a flat US$79/m) so i think it should be a clean disconnect - but I don’t have any hope they’ll give a shit enough to try, so I’m planning to copy all the customers, recreate the subscriptions and a investigate if the rebills happen or if the customer has to login and restart it themselves
@decryption sounds like a plan, you should be able to cancel the existing subs through the API, and set the end date to the regular renewal date, and set up the new sub to start on the same date. Hopefully that would mean no double billing
beehiiv are effectively holding all the stripe data hostage :(
fucken don't know how to handle this
@decryption contact stripe support, get them to put their foot up Beehiiv's arse?
@decryption wait but they were migrated to beehiiv in the first place right? So they’re happy to migrate subs in but refuse to release them? That’s dodgy AF.
@mattdarveniza yep, I now have to do the same awkward process to get them out (I forgot how exactly but I got them into cam's stripe account, I should be able to get them out, I hope)
@lilstevie everyone can just post me $60 cash
@decryption 😂 do it old magazine style, money order or cheque to P.O. Box blah
