@cstross *freeze frame* [character voiceover] well, I know this looks like we are in quite a pickle, but I had an inkling it would come to this, so we took some precautions. *flashback to XTime ago* ...
Flashbacks are staple of heist plots... not sure it applies here
@cstross send it to your publisher and then impersonate Rothfuss and leave your fans hanging
@cstross I tried once to write a novel but gave up because I found it too hard to manage and detangle plot/character threads just right, at that scale
@synlogic4242 I started with short stories. You get to practice in short form and the feedback loop is much faster. Novels are hard work (although not as hard a multi-book series fiction)!
@cstross @synlogic4242 I don't think I have a novel in me, but what I have done is lots of micro-fics I suppose they'd be called, mostly posted on tumblr.
It's kinda pathetic but at least I can say I wrote (and drew, in the case of comic format) them.
If I did want to go for longer formats, though, I definitely would start with writing a bunch of bad short stories. Quantity more important than quality, cause there's no shortcut to the quality than through a bunch of bad quality.
@cstross Even though I am an amateur scribbler, this makes me feel SO MUCH BETTER! Thank you for sharing thus glimpse behind the curtain!
@cstross cue a million "Have you accepted LLM Jesus as your Lord and Savior yet?" replies headed towards your inbox.
@fazalmajid Ha Ha ever expanding blocklist goes "whirrr" ...
@cstross um... Gravity ? :p
