FWIW, people have created (multiple) alternatives to the ICANN Internet domain system.
@reiver yeah but operating systems and browsers make it completely non feasible to support alt-dns. You can't expect someone to change their dns or root server settings or install plugins before telling them to visit your website. the whole world of crypto alt domains has showed that even if you have ooooodles of money you still can't solve this issue if you don't have the browsers and os's on your side.
