@davidgerard Yeah, fscking AI is forcing me to have an opinion on shite like systemd, snaps and, God help me, freakin' Xorg!
@davidgerard Y'all still using CLI to install software? I mean, I do because I enjoy tinkering with my bullshit, but I've had the option to install 100% of my software graphically for about a decade now. If I were still on like Ubuntu or Mint, it'd be closer to 20 years.
@davidgerard you all laughed when I said linux was the only way to preserve control of our tech. you all laughed when I said only decentralized social networking could protect our freedom. I studied the blade
@davidgerard What's actually quite funny about this is that when you know exactly what you're doing, using a command line is in many cases much easier than using a GUI. On my own Windows systems, Cygnus is one of the first things I install, a GNU system that runs on top of Windows; not a Linux, it doesn't have its own kernel but uses the Windows NT kernel instead, but you can compile all kinds of Linux software with Cygnus and run it under Windows. I mostly use it for bash instead of Cmd.exe or Powershell, and for all those nice little Unix tools.
this meme was funny 10 years ago before pulp-free automation became ubiquitous 🙄
@davidgerard I miss downloading shady exe from sourceforge. These day, I open aptitude, I search qr code, download the first hit and call it a day
@davidgerard this literally happened to me. bloated windows 11 sludged up my ancient laptop...now ive got cron jobs automatically running "sudo put-in-pipe weed.tar.gz && sudo smoke tarball" all day
@davidgerard the AI fans going all in on tmux is very funny to me
@davidgerard Next, Next, Next, Next, Accept, Next, uncheck "Install our browser addon", Next, Next, Next, uncheck "Don't not create desktop shortcut", Next, Next...
@davidgerard Juicing the tarball is probably illegal in at least a dozen US states by now, thanks to the spread of reactionary cultural conservatism under the Trump administration.
@davidgerard I start every Monday by juicing the latest tarball. It's all part of development in Linuxville.
