I know a lot of people were upset / disappointed by the recent @Blender Anthropic collaboration announcement. It's good to hear that the org listened to the community and scaled back away from their previous partnership arrangement. I'm sure lots of people will still be disappointed and for some it won't be enough, but in many ways it's also refreshing to have an organization listen to such feedback.
And yet here they are, creating an open-source tool for artists and taking money from a company that they know has a policy of ripping off artist's work.
@cwebber @Blender I agree! to me it looked like they took a donation and followed their processes (also posting an announcement) and everyone seemed to think well now they're already in bed together. Turns out that people need to be paid to develop blender and I believe they're gonna continue doing their great work with thr money they got in their own interests.
@cwebber @Blender Had they listened to their community in the first place, it would never have happened. They thought they could brush it under the rug. In fact, their scaled back agreement just means that they think they can scale it back up later when people are distracted by whatever tech atrocity we are dealing with next. It's not a win until they discontinue the agreement in totality and take steps to get community feedback for future decisions like that. Blender should be forked.
@cwebber @Blender but wait, is this not still taking money from Anthropic...? Like, has anything changed other than the way they announce it? They're still going to get a big check from Anthropic, the same Anthropic that works closely with US defense contractors that are directly responsible for atrocities?
In other news, looking at the BlenderArtist forums, I think we have a new forum topic even more contentious than whether or not Wario is a Libertarian
@cwebber if wario is a libertarian and he's the opposite of Mario does that mean Mario is a fascist? ... Currently reinterpreting Mario RPG. Mario literally is a strongman. Toad kingdom don't like Mario they're putting on a fake smile when he's around. Bowser isn't "kidnapping" peach he's rescuing her and trying to keep her from mario who physically assaults bowser to get her back.
@cwebber he has a gamedev startup, a side-hustle about treasure hunting, his contractor is an honest to god genie from a lamp who certainly don't pay tax.
what are the argument to say he isn't a libertarian?
