Elon Musk's "universal high income" idea is primarily bad because he is _lying_ about it. He has absolutely zero interest in implementing it, he's just saying it to deflect criticism over all the tech layoffs.
Brian Hamilton's criticism of UBI is simply that it's unamerican and bad to give people who need money money to live. If you do that, then people will stop being forced to work!

There's plenty of valid things to criticize Musk on; plenty of valid things to criticize Musk on this stupid "universal high income" thing. But not this libertarian garbage.
@DemocracyMattersALot Quintessentially, Musk is selling lies so he can make tons of IPO money. That's really all it is. His AI garbage is way behind everyone else's AI garbage, which is kinda pathetic but also kinda irrelevant because it's all garbage.
But to bilk the rubes out of all that sweet IPO money, he must sell the BIG lie. The BIG lie is that AI is (or will) fuel a huge boom in economic growth, which is what will (somehow) fund "universal high income".

The reality is that you do not see ANY companies experiencing amazing increases in productivity. Not a single one.
Like ... there's a lot of AI music. It's super easy to create AI slop music. So where's the big boom in any music producers? There isn't any. It's all just smoke and mirrors.
Or AI is great at generating lots of e-mails and summaries of e-mails, which should make any business's middle management super productive, right?

@woozle @DemocracyMattersALot I don't mean individual bands. I mean businesses. It's possible to scam Spotify in any number of ways. But is Spotify itself generating 100x as much revenue as before?
That's the sort of economic productivity increase that Musk is claiming will provide "universal high income".
Yeah, that I don't know. ...and as the regulatory environment comes more and more under the control of wealthy parasites, it becomes harder and harder to get good data. :-/
