Explaining to the waiter what a Caffé con grappa is. First world problems outside Italy. cc @stefano parmigiana di melanzani was the clear winner today but we dutifully will examine the tiramisu as a matter of principle

@dch one of my teachers used to have a “caffè corretto” before coming to our classroom. The barista knew her well enough so used to put more “correzione” than coffee. The results could be quite funny.
@dch @stefano We just call it cafe corretto (corrected coffee), it's how we used to start our work days. Go into the office, collect our work orders for the day, drive to the bar for a cafe corretto, and then scatter all over the region in our vans. That was in the early 80s before I moved to the US. I suspect that things are different now. If you're doing this at dinner should should ask for a vin santo with your coffee instead. In the evening I like my coffee "un po lungo".
@dch @stefano Do you know grolla?

@ThTh yes! We had these bowls in France too in Isère and Savoie https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grole very après ski @stefano
@dch that's a hard job, and you had to do it. I know... 🙂
@dch it's coffee and a grappa right?
@coldclimate yup!
the recipe is only known to a select few and generally it’s a bad sign if you have to explain it in an Italian restaurant
