Reading this kind of thing only retriples my commitment to aging naturally, glorying in the entropic subsidence of my balding, wrinkling, desiccating, creaking, slowly-withering embodiment.
The will to eternal youth – like the closely-related will to immortality that afflicts a different population – is diagnostic of a fundamental failure to reckon with the terms of being offered to us inside history. All living things die. Death is life’s way of making more, new, different life.
It’s not somehow Promethean to rage against those terms, it’s selfish and pathetic and even contemptuous. You’ll have to forgive me, I have a hard time keeping a lid on that contempt.
