Kinda reminds me of a modular graphics system I tried designing once. The idea was that each module would act as a layer, either using transparency to show underlying layers or to modify the image coming from the underlying layers in some way. The project fell foul of feature creep and falling to think of any kind of budget limitations.
@NanoRaptor how would that even work?
