A much shorter and more honest version of this article would say something like:
“The social contract of the past 70 years or so has been surfing on the most productive era of extraction of the most portable, storable, energy-dense mineral known to humankind. Without the affordability of that the entire social contract is burnt toast.
But don’t bother reading because I haven’t bothered to research or consider how we can confront that together.”
…and so it is that next Thursday, UK folks get to cast one byte of data into the bit torrent of pretending that the social contract isn’t toast.
A context in which where we actually are can never be discussed openly in mainstream circles by anyone
@urlyman perhaps worth mentioning that while there are some admittedly important places, such as Scotland, Wales and London that are voting in their national/local elections this week other places in the UK don't get the opportunity to express their disatisfaction with how our countries are being run at the ballot box.
For example there are no elections this year in Teignbridge District Council area in Devon, where I live.
So if you haven't been leafleted or canvassed or not seen any party posters that may be why.
