@paul Yes, but, do you think that manually deleted posts are also "unfair to people who reply or quote post"?
@downey , Re is it fair to manually delete a post, generally, I think it is unfair to remove a record of a conversation and other people should have the option to not engage instead of phantom posts of half a conversation without context.
I understand some people may need to delete a post, but yeah, I think it is unfair to do this and users should have a UI section or other notification, that shows orphaned replies
If a software is capable of deleting a post, it should have the capability to notify people who have replied that the post is no longer there and their comments are lingering forever without context.
Note, I am putting this on the software not the user who deletes their stuff, whether on a recurring schedule or manually. Just let me know before I engage, esp for accounts that use automatic purging. I may reply but I may add extra context to my reply, like I did at the start of this reply
