I don't know what you computer touching weirdos have done to my brain...
I just finished writing 500 some-odd lines of (terrible) #Perl using nothing more than my brain, several websites filled with helpful examples, and a copy of #vi.
I would feel empowered and wizardly if I wasn't too busy being baffled.

It is true that people who are too overwhelmed to think are not thinking.
It's truly sad, and I admit ai hype (and my own outrage) inspired me to try and learn a bit "the hard way".
