I spent the last week and a half porting @brentsimmons's NetNewsWire and it's Swift codebase to Rust and GTK / Gnome. It is 90% functioning on Linux.
There's a few things left to add (like the ability to ADD a new feed LOL. I'm working off of an OPML file that I got from the mobile version of NetNewsWire) but it's fairly complete.
I wasn't happy with any of the RSS readers on Linux and wanted what I knew best.
Currently the git is still private until I'm 100% happy with it. Almost!
@Bdkl Fun! It ’s crossed my mind more than once — and more often lately — to do an official NetNewsWire for Linux. (Using GTK, yes, though I’d use Swift in order to share code.)
@brentsimmons I haven’t seen any commentary on the state of Swift on Linux. I’m not gonna lie, I wrote it off once I sold my MacBook and focused on C and Rust.
But it looks like it actually has quite the life over here.
The hardest part was making it not look spartan on Linux. Not exactly well known for being very UI focused.
It’s probably the thing i miss the most about MacOS.
