AI NEWS OpenAI Cracks the Facade 😬 The Wall Street Journal dropped a bomb Monday night: OpenAI missed internal targets for users and revenue, and the cracks are showing in the great AI plan. CFO Sarah Friar has reportedly warned colleagues revenue has to pick up, and the board has started pushing back on Sam Altman's strategy ahead of a potential IPO. The RIP: OpenAI missed its goal of one billion weekly ChatGPT users by end of 2024 and never announced a new milestone. In 2025, it missed yearly revenue targets after Google's Gemini ate into market share. It missed multiple monthly revenue targets in early 2026 after losing ground to Anthropic in coding and enterprise. The company has $600B in future spending commitments, just raised $122B, and expects to burn through that in three years. Friar has also reportedly pumped the brakes on Altman's IPO timeline, telling executives the company isn't ready for public-company reporting standards. OpenAI and Friar pushed back hard: "We are totally aligned on buying as much compute as we can and working hard on it together every day," they said in a joint statement, calling suggestions of internal division "ridiculous." An OpenAI spokesperson separately said the company is "firing on all cylinders.” A CoreWeave spokesperson told Bloomberg Anchor Ed Ludlow “OpenAI is a terrific partner, but not our only one,” and “demand exceeds supply across the AI ecosystem.” The market didn't buy it. OpenAI is one of the central names in the now famous circular AI capex trade. If it can’t grow, what happens to the rest? $ORCL $NVDA, $AMD and $AVGO each slid, $CRWV cratered more than 5%, and SoftBank sank nearly 10% in Tokyo. Power infrastructure names got hit too — $VRT fell nearly 8%, $GEV more than 5%. The Philly Semi Index was down 4%. OpenAI is no longer an untouchable growth story. The proxy trade just got a lot more complicated.😬
