@cwebber Notice as well how this sort of order would unfairly burden any open source or personal, private OS creator as compared to giant corporations like Meta, Microsoft, and Apple. It also requires all of your phones, cars, TVs, as well as computers to share your personal information with strangers you may not want to share it with. Also, no matter how carefully protected, data like this *will* be used in ways the law either missed or maybe even prohibits.

Worth noting that the companies lobbying for these laws to avoid accountability (like meta) are also the largest donors to the linux foundation. I have not seen an official statement from the linux foundation on the issue.

@cwebber I haven't really seen any opposition to these laws. In California is swam right through without so much as a hiccup. I think this is the reality now. It's something you will have to do or you will have to find a way to spoof it. Those that spoof it will be identifiable in so doing. The internet is on it's death bed. What is replacing it is something way worse. Reticulum and DIYer controlled things like that are where I see myself moving when (not if) this passes.

If the question it answers is a simple anonymized yes or no to ‘old enough’, I’m in favor of it.
The states proposing these age laws, and the sites lobbying for them, want MUCH more personal and exploitable personal data from these laws.

The bigger picture.
If an OS is required to add age verification but doesn't or can't, it would be illegal.
People have been arguing that our officials don't know how Linux or BSD works. I believe they know how these work, and they don't like them because they can't control, police, or monitor them. They want OSs like Windows, macOS, iOS, and the soon-to-be locked-down Android to be our only choices.
The whole point of this law is to make Linux and BSD — OSs they have no power over — illegal.
