Boardgame nerds of the fediverse. Recommend me good boardgames that work for upto 6 players? Ideally something that doesn't take several hours to setup and explain the rules.

@quixoticgeek Various gradations of board-ness:
Vinci
Carcassonne
Catan
Just One
Floating Floor
Ulterior Design
Ticket To Ride
Pandemic: Rising Tide (with cloggies, extra visceral dimension)
Diamant
Flip 7
So Clover
Bang & Twang
…
Magic Maze is fun. You learn while playing with every round introducing new rules and making the maze a bit harder. If you find it too hard, you can stay on a level for a bit. Also recently bought Trio: a quick card game where you have to remember where cards are and who has them to make sets of 3 cards.
@hub already got.
trivial pursuit is straight forward and cards against humanity (not really a board game but still a table top game)
@coolcalmcollected cards against humanity doesn't work well if you don't all share a similar cultural upbringing. I generally play with an international group of friends, so it just doesn't work.
@quixoticgeek if you wand randomness and just a fun time: the new Magical Athlete is fun.
Flip 7 if you like blackjack and uno.
And finally: "That's not a hat" when you want to feel stupid because you can't remember one item. I think this game should be in every shelf. I enjoy the green version the best, but pink is also great.

Dungeon Mayhem with the Monster Madness expansion and Coup
@quixoticgeek Bohnanza is simple, fun and supports up to 7 players! It's a card game about growing beans. Yup 🤣. It's also almost impossible to predict, so discourages slow, ponderous play.
I also have a soft spot for Carcassonne; a city building dominos type game
Which I think does expand to 6 players
@benh Carcasonne is one of my favourite games.
6 isn't a player count we frequent, but Dixit.
It's not my personal cup of tea, but everyone else in the group enjoyed it and there was some silly fun. Plays good with 6, but maybe not with the same group many times.

Also maybe Ticket to Ride Map Collection: Asia + Legendary Asia, which introduces 2 player teams. Just needs the base game, Europe, or Northern Lights, to ensure enough components to play.
@quixoticgeek RoboRally is our go-to
not quite a board game, more like a charades game
but have enjoyed Dixit
@benh the first time I played Dixit it was frustrating and made zero sense and I never even got on the score board. Last night I played it for the second time. And rather than trying to understand it I just played random cards, and voted randomly. I didn't come last and it was actually fun. I'm not sure it would work if every player did that tho.
@benh I'm autistic... It just made no sense to me. Just like most social things.
@quixoticgeek a few super light options: Flip 7/Flip 7 Vengeance, 6 Nimmt, Ecosystem (any variant), Deep Sea Adventure, Deep Dive Dixit, Things In Rings.
@quixoticgeek Codenames, Camel Up, Mysterium, Tsuro, Cash & Guns, Incan Gold
@urbanfuzzy mysterium is a game I won't play. It makes absolutely no sense and left me feeling frustrated. Wasn't fun.
@quixoticgeek what’s your go-to for fewer than 6?
@urbanfuzzy ticket to ride, forbidden desert, forbidden island, pandemic rising tide, catan, Carcassonne
@quixoticgeek Flamme Rouge (with the expansion) is one of the best medium euro games for six.
I like Antike II for some light civ game action, Keyflower is a cool and weird worker placement and bidding game.
Decrypto is a pretty clever word game, as is So Clover.
Wandering Towers is an easy family game that was fun with five and probably works well with six.
@quixoticgeek betrayal at house on the hill. Pretty quick to explain, cooperative so it's totally fine if players have mixed skill levels or levels of focus/engagement, anchored with a bit of narrative (once you get to the betrayal!) but also extremely high replay value because the scenario is different every time.
