@davidgerard Been thinking about this ever since I saw this chart (attached). Hoping more folks will see that the point is to delete them all, not just swap one for the other. Then again, the US loves the pendulum of a two party system. Thanks for writing about this so clearly and thoroughly.

Line chart with two horizontally plotted trend lines: one in black representing ChatGPT downloads for the month of February 2026 vs one in orange representing Claude’s downloads for the same period of time. The background is white, the source is Appfigures Intelligence. The chart shows a dramatic reversal in late February after Claude refused a deal with the US’s DoD. Claude was now viewed as more humane and began taking on ChatGPT refugees, resulting in Claude overtaking ChatGPT in downloads for the first time that month.

@davidgerard everyone jumping onto Claude because Anthropic was slightly inconvenient to Whiskey Pete is extremely "the serial killer was kind to his pet dog".

@davidgerard

Best outcome:

Anthropic is marked as a supply-chain risk and that kills all possible investment.

OpenAI is tainted by close association with the US government and all non-US governments ban its use, and that kills all possible investment.

Bubble bursts.

I can hope...

@david_chisnall wish i'd thought of suggesting Iran cover everything in the Claude kill string

@davidgerard @david_chisnall it is an interesting question: Did Anthropic include the killstring in the models they supply to the DoD?
