As net migration falls, largely due to restrictions on skilled & education visas (while refugee numbers remain stable), the Govt. has become the agent of its own fiscal difficulties.
With lower migration, the fiscal situation will be worsened as migrants contribute more than they cost to the state, alongside adding to the demographic problem of an ageing population (refracting through the state pension).
Adopting 'populist' migration policies is a costly decision!
