In skiing, 'slop' can refer to a kind of snow pack where lots of rain has fallen on new snow. It looks beautiful and like very good skiing conditions, but is in fact very dangerous and unskiable. Skis sink in and the snow tracks making it easy to tear ligaments or break a leg. 'Slop' can also avalanche very easily.

@mastodonmigration 鈥ell, if slop is bad, after slop is worse. That鈥檚 when the slop freezes鈥ard. This is ice skating鈥ownhill鈥n frozen tundra. No one is going to brag about how good they are at this. Just that they made it back down without a stretcher being involved. Medals all around

True enough. It can also just freeze on top so that you get 'punch through crust', a sure path to injury.
