While the pay-off is not immediate, Network Rail have taken over the Barking Eurohub freight centre to expand the freight capacity coming (and going) through the Channel Tunnel by extending platforms to allow full length freight trains to use the tunnel.
This, the Govt. hope will get 10s of thousands of lorries off the roads in SE England as freight returns to the rails.
Overall this looks like good news, even if the impact will be gradual & focussed on the SE.
