The increase in the ppm concentration of atmospheric CO2 since I wrote the post below just 17 months ago is roughly equivalent to 65 more people coming along and pissing into the swimming pool we’re all swimming in.
To add to the 3,400 pisses already complete.

@urlyman ok, 8ppm in 17 months is *roughly* 0.5ppm per month. Extrapolating back, we were at pre-Industrial Revolution levels sometime around the beginning of 2001.
Only we weren't, were we? The acceleration over such a short time period is what should be making people brown-trouser levels of anxious right now.

…If I think more clearly about it than I did back in 2024, it’s actually worse.
Because the background level of Holocene piss in the pool was 2,667 pisses that the biosphere was happily evolved for (280 / 420 * 3400).
So we’ve done 733 *excess pisses* all on our own over the last 275 years or so. A rate of 2.7 pisses per year.
But we now seem to be up to more than 50 pisses in the pool per year. Capitalism stinks

…Revisiting my ‘flagons of piss’ post today is helping me see our economics as incontinence.
