#PennedPossibilities 939 — How would your MC respond if they were falsely accused of a crime?

(Current WIP): It's very unlikely indeed that Jum or Tabitha would ever be falsely accused of a crime, because they're full-time professional career criminals. They will pick pockets, cheat at cards, rob banks, and take over planetary governments with cheerful aplomb. If you got them in an interview room and convinced them to confess to everything they'd done, it'd take years to record it all.

@cstross But how would they feel about being arrested for a crime they DIDN'T do?

Given their encyclopedic rap sheets, they would likely make excellent fall guys.

@DigiCom They'd be extremely indignant, then escape and get even. (It wouldn't be the first time.) They mostly don't have rap sheets because to have a rap sheet some of the police need to survive to record the crimes: Tabitha is a strong proponent of "no cop left behind".

@cstross
But what if they were accused of a specific crime that they hadn't done? Would they not be bothered, or take a professional affront to being credited with a job sloppily done?

@HighlandLawyer They would be very indignant, then secretly kick themselves in private and work out how to perform that specific crime without getting caught. (Preferably leaving evidence pointing at the investigator who accused them.)

This is, of course, a Stainless Steel Rat tribute novel.

@stevewfolds @HighlandLawyer Noted, but Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser weren't married to one another!
