for a series of reasons i happened again upon this appraisal of my mid-2024 regex experiments from Pip Cet on emacs-devel: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-devel/2024-08/msg00164.html

this is perhaps the kindest thing anyone has ever said to me in my entire life. consider especially:

Do you have commit access yet?

do i have commit access to emacs upstream yet? you're asking me if i have achieved a major life goal as if it were a mere formality? as if it wouldn't be the most heartfelt copyright assignment in human history? i just wish the fsf still required a physical signed statement on paper through the mail so i could bind a part of my self into that transmission of mutual trust

literally tagging this #selfesteem to find later. i don't care about anyone else's appraisal of my work. emacs-devel loves me and wants me to succeed

a close second for kindest thing i've ever been told was arthur cohen (of gccrs fame) spontaneously remarking "you have so many good ideas all the time" or something to that effect. i feel like i owe him so many gccrs contributions in return for making me feel for a fleeting moment like i fucking matter and people appreciate the things i do

it's too bad the christian conception of heaven isn't real because he would make it in by virtue of that single act alone. his contributions to gccrs would then easily constitute yet another heaven admission which he could then sell on the dark web in return for christocurrency
