here’s more on the #India #generalStrike, and what i found significant for 2 reasons:

1. they got the blessing from the Indian Congress
2. the millions of NON-UNIONIZED workers that joined in, including the banking & finance sectors and working class shop owners.

Thursday and Friday of this week (19-20th February 2026) another historic 24hr #generalStrike happened in #Argentina; and of course #USA media downplayed the fact more than 400 commercial airline flights had to be cancelled because “dozens” or workers protested on the streets and "a few thousands" stayed at home to protest Milei’s evisceration of labor protections.

@blogdiva I should clarify that 600k is still amazing, but 300 million would be a group the size of almost the full population of the US and 20% the population of India.

Other sources from India discount the claim and report much smaller numbers in different locations.

Also, a nationwide strike doesn't seem to be super unusual in India. If you search for the relevant local term "Bharat Bandh" plus any year, a number of news articles will come up
