@anarchismhub When the live exports demos kicked off in the 1990's I was in an animal rights group that coordinated a lot of demos. We suddenly went from a core of about 8 activists to 200 people, and it felt great to suddenly have massive growth, but the veteran campaigners cautioned is that this growth literally guaranteed that we were being surveilled, and we approached new members with caution. We kept tactics, planning and intelligence to the original core, who had known each other for years, but we STILL assumed we were compromised, and proceeded on that basis, taking great care to keep to our original morals and not escalate beyond our usual extent of direct action and protest. We weathered the live exports campaign, and when it was over, numbers dropped off back to the original core. I left the area shortly afterwards, and this the group, and never knew if any of the core turned out to have been a mole... They probably think it was me considering I left...
