@obrhoff it was always perplexing why they'd choose Swift for a use-case that's so removed from the "happy path" of Apple's dev tools mindset
@iamkonstantin Idk. I guess it looked good on paper and they hoped it will get there?
@obrhoff Sure - in theory, a general purpose language should be usable for general purpose things including building a browser. I guess outside people really do believe the "general purpose" bits. But working in the ecosystem I think it's clear for everyone that when Apple says cross platform, they mean cross-our-platform and the rest is nice to have. Many of the listed blocker issues seem to just not have been a priority for the Swift folks. I also would've opted to move on with my own thing
@iamkonstantin Yeah. There is Open Source and there is Open Source controlled by a corporation that wants to fulfil its own business goals. Like Chrome, Android, etc. as well.
