Question: why are other world governments not stepping in to prevent Sam Altman from destroying the entire global supply chain for computer components? That seems like it would be a no-brainer economic and political move. Even if you do believe that AI is somehow worth it, then you must still be better off with it not controlled entirely by Sammy

@jenniferplusplus Sammy is a grand master of control, and this threat is something that pretty much nobody really took seriously, by and large, despite all the general signs and warnings leading up to today's (admittedly unforseen) situation in the OP.

I suspect one or more of:
* The ones completely captured by market ideology want billionaires to run everything: if that's what the market makes happen, it is the best outcome.
* Some are trapped in status-quo paralysis and normalcy bias: it can't be as bad as it looks surely?
* Some expect the bubble/collapse to occur sooner than they can do anything.
* China has other plans, and is waiting to put them in place as patiently and competently as it has with renewable energy.
