Curious, it’s much more likely that children get hurt, abused or indoctrinated at home or commuting to school or in school than on the Internet, yet no one is banning homes, commutes or schools.
But everyone is eager to cut off children’s access to the Internet.
@thomasfuchs I am pretty much for children not being able to sign up for any accounts on META, and probably others I cannot remember, simply due to the fact that those platforms are demonstrably bad for everyone. Honestly, I would ban META's apps and jail Zuckerberg, ban X and jail Musk, and Thiel? A rocket to the sun.
The only social media that anyone should use is the fediverse. I just don't think kids should be marketed to, have their data stolen, and worse, be subsumed by garbage.
@csgraves you can only somewhat reliably do this with ID checks or by installing a police officer in every home, which then makes the Internet not private for everyone, leaks data, further disadvantages people without documentation, leads to further censoring, VPN bans and further data mining by big tech.
As a bonus you cut off access of children to information that’s not “approved” by their guardians (e.g. reproductive health and LGBTQ topics).
It is not possible to do this unless you essentially give up on the internet as we know it.
Therefore, it’s bullshit.

No no, instead of regulating social media and requiring them to remove lies, violence and bullshit we’d rather have adults give up their privacy and anonymity instead, so big tech gets even more data.
While children are pushed to much worse corners of the Internet.
People who demand ID laws are child abusers.
