@dumpsterqueer it's very important to understand that jack dorsey's conception of "mistakes" that dansup is repeating here refers quite literally and specifically to "doing any moderation at all"
@dumpsterqueer i simply refuse to read a dansup post but that part is visible in my client and i can quite confidently state that much
@dumpsterqueer i am an ex-tweep who used to idolize dorsey and to say that i hate him would not be sufficient. blacksky's recent work on private data (in the form of blacksky-only posts) is something the atproto ecosystem has refused to implement beforehand and it seems like a very positive direction for the protocol
@dumpsterqueer would be cool to see people working with it whose judgement i trust like you
@dumpsterqueer I would like to think the goal is an open social web rather than walling up the gardens and hoping the alternatives fail.
I would love to be more in contact with my friends who aren't on this platform, but they're enjoying where they are and I'm happy for them. There's not a finite amount of pie or something that should succeed over all others. Different things can coexist!
@dumpsterqueer It's not much different than the days of fediverse projects comparing themselves and talking others down. There's no winners
@babe yeah i don't really get it either when people do that, we're colleagues not competitors for goodness' sake
@dumpsterqueer Oh, I felt my stomach sinking there until I saw the magic words "opt in" :D
@sotolf of course! you know us, this stuff would always be opt-in
I think that might have come across as a bit weird, what I meant to say is that I'm all in for projects and people doing things they feel like, are interested in, and might help other people get more enjoyment or use of a program, I'm just happy that I don't get forced to enable it, because I don't really know if I'm interested in inviting things like bluesky in my life :)
@sotolf oh no don't worry about it, didn't read it as weird :)
@dumpsterqueer I'm curious how you'd implement it?
Would it just be better integration/support of something like BridgyFed?
Or would it be a deeper integration, where your GtS account is simultaneously a BlueSky PDS and also a Fediverse account?
I know @dansup was toying with adding full ATProto support to Pixelfed at one point...
@dumpsterqueer he could criticize the corporate-ness of bluesky but instead he goes for "they use the wrong protocol"?
but then again the corporate-ness is kind of what he probably also wishes the fediverse to become so i guess that makes sense
(i still dislike bluesky for reasons of the people behind it sucking and it being big corporate social media but at the same time that applies to reddit and tumblr and discord, and I'd rather someone posts on any of those than on twitter)
@dumpsterqueer like, honestly if gts had a built-in feature to optionally federate with bluesky, I'd probably even activate that? I have a bluesky account i use mainly to read posts from youtubers and streamers and organizations that aren't on here and having those posts just in my fedi client would be nice 🤷
@sammy yeah the conversation after the linked post kinda makes me wanna investigate how to do some kind of integration tbh, it would be cool
@dumpsterqueer especially if they were chased out by racism problems
