In the late 1980s, as the SADF's defeat in Angola was playing out into the independence of Namibia, there was a rush of "white" #SouthAfrica ns to Lusaka to meet the ANC, which had already been notified that it would be unbanned. A prof who went, on his return, told us students to expect "another comprador regime." Every passing year proves him more right. https://www.opensecrets.org.za/eskoms-r92bn-gift-for-south32/ This unique arrangement, where bauxite is shipped in and smelted with coal-sourced electricity, dates back to apartheid when there was surplus generation capacity.

Eskom’s R92bn ‘gift’ for South32
