@cstross bought me the @iFixit tool kit in December. I have just used it* to mend a 13 year old, and therefore hard to replace, TV remote in which a battery had decided to leak messily.

Mood: accomplished.

* plus isopropyl alcohol, some cotton buds, an old toothbrush, and the wet and dry paper I use for making models.

@feorag @cstross @iFixit

If you have access to a flipper zero or similar IR reader I recommend using it to find out what that remote's IR codes are so you can replace it with a DIY solution in the future if it breaks irreparably.

Borrowed one of those to clone my sound bar's remote and it's been great

@gbargoud @feorag @iFixit We don't. (Also, the TV was new in 2012. Really, we're only still using it because I'm on the lookout for a 4K display for the Apple TV that isn't going to force-feed us ads and internet crap.)

@cstross @feorag @iFixit

Good luck on that search.

I caved early and bought a Roku TV 8 years ago knowing that they will stuff it full of ads and crap but it was real cheap and is still going strong.
