Really struggling with what goes through the mind of people outsourcing their whole profession and skill to some company that probably won’t be there anymore in two years; and if the company is still there the product won’t be anymore; and if somehow both the company and the product makes it through it will be completely unaffordable.

@thomasfuchs it's that last bit that really blows my mind.

The fact that leaders are so scared of looking clueless now that they're obviously setting themselves up to get thoroughly screwed and their margins stolen by their AI-as-a-service provider once they raise prices tells me everything I need to know about the average executive.

My only hope is that the bubble pops sooner than later, and saves their employees more damage.

@thomasfuchs this is actually one of the reasons why we spent 2 weeks rolling out our own dynamic link service when firebase went away. None of the vendors out there looked worth the hassle.

@thomasfuchs I'm pretty sure that almost all all of the people making that kind of decisions don't expect to be there in two years when things get ugly.

@thomasfuchs my reality is that it's being pushed from the top and proficiency is being used as a signal in performance reviews.

The choices I see are a) follow the mandate, b) protest the mandate which will be used as a layoff pretense, or c) quit and try to find or build something in a toxic environment.

I'm doing a mix of A and B but C gets more tempting by the day.

@zrail wait until d) they fire you for adopting AI and not warning management that it’s bad and now the financials look bad after they shipped features that nobody wants based on AI research and that broke the parts of the app that worked before because of vibe coding

@thomasfuchs sure, a spicy version of A that puts a paycheck in my pocket for longer than B or C.

I don't really see a win condition for anyone without preexisting means.
