But the thing today has WiFi and more space than a Nomad, so is not lame.
Very clever way to putting perspective on advanced technology.
I'm old school so USB sticks & MP3 players are all around the house, autos, and man bag for hotels & get-togethers.
Every song is hand picked from the collection, which is pretty expansive, and every one I put on a device is great!*
*except those ones I put on a device for my wife
@thomasfuchs you can still buy devices with local storage and much much more of that than the old Apple, like Fiio and others, so streaming isn't the only replacement.
@david_chisnall I'm specifically showing the 5GB OG iPod for this reason which could was advertised as " 1,000 songs in your pocket" and it can do that in reasonable quality.
@thomasfuchs Yup, that’s the one where the Slashdot review was ‘No WiFi. Less space than a Nomad. Lame.’
On the plus side, I was in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt on vacation and I was able to play the Indiana Jones theme song on my phone as a joke.
@thomasfuchs and, in my experience, the files downloaded to your device will only *sometimes* play when you're offline
@ben i've had some disappear before as "not available in your region", like a single song out of a motherf'ckn concept album
awesome stuff
