LOL, at some point I had an Amazon Prime membership (because I wanted to watch certain shows and they were only on Prime Video).
I just got a physical letter from Amazon telling me that the US government decided that I was missold Prime as I only used certain benefits and that the FTC requires them to pay me compensation.
How much? $14.99. The letter came with a cheque. There is no possible way to cash that in Norway. Oh and they spelt my name wrong anyway because they cannot do Unicode.
@ruari 14$ doesn't seem like a lot, but if all prime customer get that pay out it will be a hit to them

@ruari Might be worth noting that when I complained to them about not being able to cancel Amazon Prime (it took a year!), they promptly paid back *to the original debit card account*. No cheque.
So am wondering if one can smell Trump in the background of that thing ....
@tina The letter actually mentioned "President Trump's Federal Trade Commisson". Not the "Federal Trade Commisson of the United States"…

Also I have no idea if posting these details allows someone somewhere to claim this money in some convoluted way but if so you are welcome to it. 😜
I should also add that the accopmpanying letter only gives me until the 21st to cash it.
For the Americans who might not understand, cheques are not really a thing in most of Europe and have not been in a very long time, even less so in a foreign currency.
This is just so Amazon can say, "We tried, it is not our fault those communist Europeans do not take our Freedom money" to the FTC.
They never had any intention of paying anyone in Europe, hence #MaliciousCompliance
I had initially assumed this was a scam letter of some kind but I think it is real, mainly because it is so stupid. Actual scammers would be smarter.
Ok, I just read the letter again and it mentions the following
"If you are having issues negotiating your check, please visit XXXX to request your payment be issued to you via PayPal."
Now the URL is generic and could be scammy 🤔 but it might be posisble to do something with that if it is all legit.

I mean even if it is possible the only reason I would try would be principle but it seems like a lot of work and possibly fees for handling and currency conversion, which I would assume would be higher than the value of the cheque.
