Just took my iPhone 13 to the Apple Store to fix its charging port. Thankfully they could fix it up on the spot, but I asked how much it’d cost to replace the port: €400 was the answer.

Holy shirtballs, Batman! Apparently the entire back of the phone is one piece, including the camera and charging port. That is absolutely horrid repairability!

I knew Apple phones were bad for repairability, but that’s unacceptable.

@Brendanjones yes, Apple is notorious for replacing more than is necessary. I would recommend going to a reputable third-party repair shop. They can usually replace only the port at a much lower cost.

I’m not sure the solution, and it’s not like I have another option for a phone brand given I do not want another Android phone - both because I don’t want to contribute to the mother of surveillance capitalism that is Google (yes, solved by using /e/ or Lineage), and also because the whole ecosystem is just so damn buggy, with lower quality apps (not solved by using /e/ or Lineage. Probably worse, in fact).
