The beautiful white village of Grazalema (Andalusia, Spain) had already been evacuated because of terrible amounts of rain. January had 1295 mm, an all-time high monthly total. But after today's 78 mm (and counting), February now already stands at 1373 mm, that's more than double in any February before!

Bar graph showing this year's precipitation versus average for the month:
Jan 1295.5 mm vs 276.2
Feb (so far) 1373.7 mm vs 215.7 (whole month)

The devastating news on Grazalema - definitely climate change at work - hits home hard because we once camped outside the town with our kids. In the evening we visited the Plaza, and it was the most lively community you can think of, everyone chatting, having a drink, playing, and enjoying life.

Let me try to convey how bizarre, absurd, out-of-range, and worrying this ongoing deluge in southern Spain is.
January 2026: wettest month ever recorded in Grazalema, 5 times normal rainfall.
February 2026: already the new wettest month ever after just 11 days, 6 * normal rainfall for the entire month.
