Posting here is EXHAUSTING sometimes. It’s like a maze of twisty passages, each leading to a minefield of contradictory personal rules that random strangers feel entitled to enforce.

@mattblaze man am I glad I'm nowhere near as popular as you are to get this more ire from people with too much time on their hands
@mattblaze another +1 in support of the gear list. My favourite ever landscape photographer, John Davies, uses a Cambo Wide and reading your detailed posts help me understand what the process is for such cameras. It’s such a different world from the motion picture cameras I trained on.
@mattblaze
Unfortunate that the mere mention tools attracts them. 🤷
@mattblaze I rather appreciate that you post what you shoot with, because it allows me to go look stuff up and nerd out about it. so, y'know, w00t
(and yeah I hear ya about the posting exhaustion)
I block and/or mute all the HOA and incoherent lecturing people that show up in my posts.
There's a lot of weird people out there, can't get upset about it.
@mattblaze I'm not gonna, but if I had the time and resources, I'd build an Ai nemesis bot that identifies scolds and then just scolds them back 24/7.
I don't think I'd tell people if I won the lottery, but there would be signs.

@mattblaze my feed gave me this little gift this morning, and I initially thought you had boosted this @effinbirds post, but it's just a coincidence. In case it's something you may want in the future, it's here: https://mastodon.social/@effinbirds/116053867056881036
@mattblaze I tell these people that the magic of Mastodon is that one can always block users they don't want to see. Please block me, problem solved.
@mattblaze I, for one, and I assume there are many like me, appreciate that you make the effort. Thank you!
@mattblaze I'm not sure if you had some pent up anger and anxiety that we just caught a stray, or what. But these characterizations are unfair based on OPs questions. And I say that as the Fediverse's number 1 critic.
I can guarantee you if you would've answered "I don't know," you wouldn't have received the pushback you're clearly anticipating.
I'm listening to your podcast as I type this, and hearing how you all want to leave corporate social media, but you're here treating this place like corporate social media.
This isn't a place where everyone's goal is centered on themselves. People here care about the collective, because otherwise why would anyone be here? There's no algorithm to game.
No one expects you to have all the answers because no one here has all the answers. But people do expect you to participate in the greater community.
That starts with dropping the smug attitude, man. You have no idea what the average Mastodonian is like. You only know what the tech elite say about us. And most of that is wildly unfair characterizations.
This is one of the only places on the Internet fighting the corporatization of the web.
We have trust and safety folks working their ass off for little to no pay. Server admins paying out of pocket so we can have something better than Facebook. Developers submitting bugs and building infrastructure so you can come here and conduct your experiment.
Those people deserve more than a knee jerk reaction. So recalibrate.
What you're doing here has a potential to be something really cool. But it won't work if you're gonna isolate yourself from the people you need. And trust me, you will need them.
You will soon learn how hard it is to keep this place afloat. And that's before considering how many in the corporate web don't want us here.
@mattblaze @presidiet Those two points would look good on a T Shirt
@presidiet @mattblaze wow, this is a whole new level of making cishet white men type paragraphs!
I didn't know that it was possible to do this by being a dude talking about photography, I always assumed you had to be some kind of a minority with some kind of opinion for that.
@mattblaze @presidiet blockity block block.
Those troll bots are getting overly wordy
Now I want to get a podcast.
So… it turns out there IS a “matt blaze” with a podcast. Some rightwing radio jock has “The Matt Blaze Show” on WABC Radio in NYC, with an associated podcast.
This person is not me.
@mattblaze so this douchenozzle was clueless enough to confuse *you* with a right-wing radio jock? That's a special level of 🤦🏻♀️
@mattblaze a horrible, horrible fate of being the first google result for a name shared with a less famous but more annoying person begins to become clear 😱
If you do start your own podcast, at least have the decency to use the same title.
Yes, but how can you be *sure*?
@mattblaze Huh, interesting, I have to admit that reply was TL;DR and smelled like AI slop, so I figured it was just a hallucination
I’m not familiar with this show or the personality who hosts it, but it seems at least plausible that someone has confused me with him.
Problem? Or opportunity? Hmmm
@mattblaze I think you can clear up podcasts with antibiotics
@mattblaze @presidiet@gts.gestalt.noho.st
You do find the most "interesting" people worth blocking though Matt 😉
@mattblaze great description regarding “personal rules” !
just block ‘em, life’s too short to argue about such trivia
@grammasaurus Not to speak for @mattblaze, but blocking each individual offender can be pretty exhausting as well, if this sort of thing happens often enough!
@stefan @mattblaze So true!
I don’t have a large following so I don’t have to block very often, but I have no qualms about doing it.
@mattblaze hmm… I hope that doesn’t deter you from posting similar content. I certainly do find your posts informative…
@mattblaze Somebody got very angry at me the other day for saying that our goals of societal change should also benefit minorities, because sometimes I also take pictures when I go on bike rides. Every day is an adventure.
@mattblaze
Well, I'm glad you keep coming back. Thanks for not bailing.
@mattblaze There's no shortage of people who find the bravery online to challenge mundane and innocuous topics for the sake of argument over legitimate purpose or principle.
Many of whom would likely say little or nothing on the topic if you were to be speaking of it in a public setting, and they were there in person.
