the software stack must be manageable, meaning there must be no dependence on npm for clients so they can be easily packaged for linux distros (docker images and flatpaks serve only to hide software complexity)

@hipsterelectron I mean... Not all nonprofits are good, obviously, but all for-profits are bad, so I get it 🤷 idk if the idea was "this is a surefire way to make sure it's led/maintained well" or just "letting it be run by a for-profit corporation is a surefire way to make sure there are gonna be issues" but the latter is 100% true so I'm inclined to assume that was the intention
@raphaelmorgan oh i didn't intend to throw too much shade there actually just meant to note that it seems insufficient as a criteria on its own and worth noting just because nonprofits are very much created as corporate shells. it's not like an easy problem to solve at all i just do think that governance concern is an essential component of a robust solution
@hipsterelectron very good point, we def need to be wary of trusting nonprofits just because they claim to be nonprofits 😅 hopefully any software that pops up is thoroughly vetted by the community either way, and we take "nonprofit" as a yellow-green flag but dig further into how much of a lie that is lol
@raphaelmorgan i really really love @OpenArchive's literally decentralized local structures as an answer for hosting content at high risk of censorship. funding software development is a little different but i mention it here because it's an example of a robust model that evades the centralizing control that nonprofits can wield
