one day, I wish every UNIX user ever would discover how VM/CMS does its help. full, interactive, colorful, hypertext, synopsis-or-detailed, yada yada yada oh and also there's a library of literally hundreds of PDF manuals, all beautifully typeset, written by some goated technical writers, that you can either read online or print out
and the best part? the control commands for that documentation reader program are compatible with a program called SCRIPT (basically troff for the systems VM/CMS is found running on, alongside two other OSes)
modern unix has deplorable documentation... it's to the point where I don't read man pages. like wtf is "SYNOPSIS: ls [-abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz]" supposed to tell me?
the man command was one of UNIX's many original sins, and the fact that it isn't hypetext.
these problems were solved DECADES ago, unix people
