One effect of the under-whelming demand for electric vehicles is a growing shift by some battery manufacturers from batteries for vehicles to batteries for energy storage facilities (needed to smooth out fluctuation in renewable energy generation).

Given storage in energy networks is a current concern for renewables' expansion this looks like helpful move, although what its impact on the supply of EVs will be remains to be seen.

@ChrisMayLA6

Underwhelming? Global EV sales growth of 20% YoY in 2025?

Am I missing something? Certainly BESS is growing fast too, and the overcapacity issue there means they are looking for opportunities all over but is the Global EV market "underwhelming"?

@Tallish_Tom @ChrisMayLA6 “According to Benchmark, the European EV market grew by 33% compared with 2024, with strong growth in Germany (48%), and the UK (27%). “ but growth in the US was minimal - guess why? 😉

@alex_p_roe @Tallish_Tom

well, it may be that they built out capacity at even higher a rate & are now scaling back to shift to areas with 'new' demand - much about their judgement will be actual demand against projected....

I think everyone will find the projections they felt comfortable making about global BESS growth will be well below the actuals over the next few years.

Growth in solar + storage in the sun belt is going to be phenomenal. The flywheel is still spinning up there.

@Tallish_Tom you're missing nothing. Global EV demand is definitely whelming, perhaps even over-whelming.
